We feel the Playstand is the best kept secret of Waldorf education. A completely versatile piece of equipment its uses are endless: a house or den, puppet theatre, café, cowboy ranch or pirate ship … let the children decide.
Made from solid pine and finished only with natural tung oil, a playstand will never look out of place even in the middle of the living room. Once the children have outgrown using it for play the playstand makes an attractive piece of furniture – a welcome change from flat-packed MDF.
Our playstands are completely handmade and finished by UK company Kinderwood. Very little assembly is required and there are no screws for fixing. Playstands can also be made to order in alternative sizes and woods.
The playstand can be used on its own or with the canopy to create a more private playspace. A giant playsilk can be draped across the canopy and held in place with our otter play pegs. Playsilks make a beautiful addition and encourage children's imaginative instincts. Playsilks, can also be attached to the playstand shelf as curtains for a house or a puppet theatre.
If you have the space then two playstands facing each other with canopies form an arch. The giant playsilk will cover both. Now you have created a larger playspace for several children to play together, also ideal for nurseries or playgroups.
Lastly, playstands can be used outside as an alternative to a Wendyhouse; a garden hideaway which will appeal to boys as well as girls. Easily portable they can be moved inside should the English summer come to an abrupt end!
